A flowering cherry tree in Bexhill has sprung back into blossom after starting four months early in December.

Botanist Anthony Hamilton noted the tree in Town Hall Square began to flower in mid-winter due to the mild weather but soon stopped after Christmas.

But the retired university lecturer was pleased to see it restart last weekend, three weeks later than usual, according to his records.

Anthony described the flowering cherry as a ‘true harbringer of spring’.
