SOME 20 jobs will be created in Bexhill thanks to specialist care provider Glen Care expanding its range of services and investing in a local hospital for young adults with autism.
The fully-refurbished Windsor Unit, based in a completely renovated wing of the Langford Centre, De La Warr Road, will initially have provision for the care of nine individuals. It is expected to open in May.
Each resident will receive a personalised care package, based on their needs and on achieving positive outcomes, delivered by the unit’s enhanced multi-disciplinary team.
Residents will be encouraged and supported to reach their best potential and independence in all aspects of their daily life, enabling them to become valuable and integrated members of the local community.
The Windsor Unit and its services complement Glen Care’s existing portfolio of services. Glen Care is a specialist provider of low secure hospitals, locked rehabilitation hospitals, enhanced residential services and supported living for detained and informal patients.
It has several community- based locations in London and across the South East.
The company prides itself on measurable outcomes, in line with world-class commissioning and validated assessments, and works closely with the National Health Service, local authorities and social services.
Chief executive Jane Bunnett said: “We are making significant investments in our services and opening new specialist services over the next few years.
“The Windsor Unit has been well received by healthcare professionals, particularly in light of the services it provides for the Bexhill area, which will allow local young adults to live close to their family and friends.
“The experience Glen Care has in mental health, learning disabilities and long-term care transfers very well into these new services. We are building on our already strong and established areas of expertise and offering an even more comprehensive range of facilities.”
The National Autistic Society defines autism as: “A lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.
“It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways.
“Some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support. People with autism may also experience over or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours.”
Asperger’s Syndrome is a form of autism.
