Kane you believe it? Comic star kicks off the Edinburgh season

It is that time of year again when the great and the good of the comedy world head to Hastings to preview their Edinburgh festival shows.

Stand Up Hastings (nee Laugh It Up) has hosted the seasonal showcase for the last few years, with a different headline comic trying out their Edinburgh act every week throughout the summer.

And this year's line-up looks the best yet, with acts like Paul Sinha (July 20), Phil Nichol (July 6) and Magnus Betner (June 15) all booked in.

Things start with a bang on Tuesday, with the visit of Russell Kane – he of Big Brother's Big Mouth presenting fame.

The award-winning comic's annual Edinburgh show has become one of the most hotly anticipated in the Scottish comedy capital since debuting with The Theory of Pretension in 2006.

That first show was nominated for a festival award and subsequent offerings, such as 2008's Gaping Flaws and 2009's Fakespeare and Human Dressage, were equally enthusiastically received.

In fact, Human Dressage saw him put forward for The Edinburgh Comedy Award for the third time.

The class conscious bard of Enfield who is as physically manic as he is mentally sharp heralds another cracking Edinburgh season.

At just a fiver to get in, each show is probably the best value for money available in 1066 Country, the UK, or even the world.

One hour of jokes. 60 minutes of chuckles for just 500 pence. That is just 8.3p a minute. And you can bet the like of Russell Kane cram in more than one joke every 60 seconds. You are basically shelling out less than 5p a gag. Where else can you get that sort of return on your hard earned?

Doors open at Venuu in George Street at 7.30pm for an 8.30pm start.
