Look at the evidence

I WOULD like to reply to Derek Stocker’s letter of January 20 and thank him for his remarks.

I’m glad he agrees that individuals can and do make a difference to harmful carbon footprint by changing to renewable forms of energy such as solar panels.

I can assure him with an overwhelming wealth of evidence of the scientific community that it is not “fruitlessly worried”.

Our governments have been in possession of all this evidence for years. I believe our MP Greg Barker is trying to lead positively with prescience in this debate, but is being tripped by his short-sighted Treasury department which cascades money to bankers and a comparative pittance to Mr Barker’s area. The Durban Talks’ failure to agree a maximum increase of a figure of two on CO2 emissions (which scientists already agree could be drastic) means that they could accept double this increase and still have no legal framework to enforce or penalise.

Instead of waiting for a lethargic government to take the responsible lead, Derek, use your vote and voice to let our MP know you would like him to lead.

Derek Stocker says he’s changing to log fires. Good, there’s a debate to be had, this is a satisfactory compromise - but not without it’s own downsides - to a renewable fuel (unlike coal, oil, gas) which will continue to grow and renew, remove CO2 from the atmosphere while growing, give local employment, less transport pollution, helps woodland and orchard management and is probably more efficient for heating in that it doesn’t involve losses of energy at and from the power stations to Bexhill.
