I NOTE with some cynicism that the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership has taken upon itself to further improve road safety on King Offa Way (KOW) by the deployment of a mobile camera van, co-located with the fixed camera, on at least three occasions recently.
It has been reported in the past that the fixed speed camera on KOW has improved the safety of this stretch of road since the ‘spate of accidents’ some years ago.
If the road is now safe, then why does the Safety Partnership co-locate a mobile camera at the site other than to catch a few drivers who exceed the speed limit a bit on the approaches to the fixed camera?
There can be only one reason, and that’s to raise revenue with little or no regard to improving road safety on KOW.
