Sixty glorious years
QUEEN Elizabeth II’s attaining of 60 years on the throne cannot pass without comment, and so I have written the following poem, Sixty Glorious Years:
THE Queen now wears a diamond crown
Created during her reign of 60 glorious years
By acts of clearest vision and deeds of great renown
Oft by blood, sweat, toil and tears;
Changing a mighty worldwide Empire
Into a loyal and noble Commonwealth
United by the fiercest desire
To forge through peace, war and stealth
A brotherhood of nations;
Bonded by history and the traditions
That sanctify the hopes, fears and aspirations
Of people’s with many holy creeds and religions
Living together in harmony under one queen
In freedom, equality and peace serene
