Thank you from charity

THROUGH your paper I would like to thank the people of Bexhill for more than £1,000 that has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of John Burke,, who sadly died in December 2011.

Thank you to the more than 200 people who attended the memorial service for John Burke on Saturday January 28 at St Mary Magdalene’s Church for their generosity. The collection including donations amounted to £648.04.

The service was put together by his wife Mary and their daughters Marina, Natasha and Fiona. It was a fitting tribute to a special man, he would have been very proud of their efforts.

He was well known and respected for his work in and around Bexhill, his time with Bexhill Rotary, his work for St Jude’s, and the Stables Theatre in Hastings. We will all remember John for his kindness, generosity and of course his sense of humour.

In addition to the memorial service, £400 was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support from a fundraising event held in John’s memory at the Bexhill Waterfront just before Christmas.

John, a regular contributor to this letters page, is very much missed by all who knew him and we know he would have been very pleased with the monies raised for this charity in his memory.
