Total cost of shelters

YOUR readers may remember that when the competition to design the new shelters for the West Parade promenade was announced in June 2009, the Design Competition Brief was adamant that:

“The shelters are controlled by a very tight budget” and that “the four shelters each have a fixed construction budget of £40,000”. A total of £160,000.for the four shelters.

In answer to a written question from a councillor at the Services Overview & Scrutiny Committee (SOSC) meeting last week, it was revealed that the final cost had risen to £76,850 each.

That’s a total of £307,400 for the four shelters.

Your readers may have their own questions or opinions about the Next Wave that they would like to put to the SOSC.

If so, they might be given a unique opportunity to engage with the committee at an “open” meeting of the SOSC which is currently being arranged by Rother District Council.
