A HOSPITAL chief executive is urging locals to sign up to the organ donor register and potentially help save lives.
Darren Grayson, who heads East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, this week praised Dr Tuhin Goswami, a consultant anaesthetist who signed up 259 new donors while manning an awareness stand at Eastbourne’s Airbourne festival.
Darren said: “An organ transplant may save someone’s life or significantly improve their health and quality of life. There is no age limit to becoming a donor. A person’s physical condition, not age, is the deciding factor.
“One donor can help several people because a single donor can donate a number of organs and tissue can also be donated.
“I would encourage anyone who has not signed up to be an organ donor to consider doing so. It really is a potential gift of life.”
