The Rotary Clubs of Bexhill and Battle are working together to stage the annual Youth Speaks competition on Thursday.
According to Bexhill Rotarian Graham Forster, there are already ten teams from local schools signed up to compete this year as well as the annual visit of a team from De Lage Waard School from Holland.
As in previous years, teams compete in two categories; Intermediate for ages 11 to 13, and Senior for ages 14 to 17. Each team consists of a chairperson, speaker and a proposer of a vote of thanks. The team has totally free choice on the subject to speak about - this will usually cover matters of international, national, local or current interest. Last year subjects such as ‘hats’ and ‘the price of bottled water’ were discussed.
Youth Speaks starts at 6.30 p.m. at Bexhill High in Gunters Lane.
Bexhill’s Graham Forster said, “This year we have a full complement of teams competing and I have every confidence that the whole evening will be as entertaining as it has been in previous years with each team delivering a very high standard of presentation.”
