An “absolutely brilliant” beer festival was held at the Albatross club as it works its way towards yet more recognition from the Campaign For Real Ale.
The club is hoping to win a fourth award from CAMRA for its real ales and the event over the weekend should have gone some way to achieving that aim.
Bar manager Geoff Wentworth said: “It was the best so far. It was really well attended.
“We sold all the beer and all the cider - that was nearly 2,000 pints.
“It was an absolutely fantastic beer festival.
“We have really good members and fantastic volunteers who are really enthusiastic and hard working.”
The beer which sold out most quickly - and was most popular - was from the Nottinghamshire Flipside brewery and called Russian Rouble.
Geoff added: “What the festival does for the club - apart from bring in income - is it promotes the club. There are a lot of clubs in Bexhill but this makes us stand out. It encourages membership because anyone can join. When we have a beer festival we get a temporary events notice which enables anyone to come in and see what we are like.
“We don’t charge admission and our prices are really competitive...and we do have some fantastic beer in.
“We got a lot of favourable comments, and we also got a lot of people in who hadn’t tried real ales before.
“We get in some very unusual beers from all over the country - for instance, we had a fantastic beer called Aphrodite which was like drinking peach juce, and another one was a bourbon milk stout which was like drinking bourbon biscuits.
“The festival enables people to try.
“ People have an idea of how beer tastes and it really doesn’t have to be that - there are fantastic hops from Australia and America, and around the world, blends of hops and single hops, and all kinds of different taste combinations, which can be hoppy, malty, coffee, porters, you name it.
“What we try for is a really good combination of different variations of beers and different flavours. The festival does encourage people to try them out.”
The Albatross club, which is home to the local branch of the Royal Air Force Association, is on Marina Arcade.
