THE De La Warr Pavilion has helped put Bexhill on the map and now its chief executive wants local businesses to help push the venue onto another level.

Stewart Drew has contacted local firms to ask for their help in promoting the De La Warr’s forthcoming programme and to reiterate his belief that what is good for the pavilion is good for local businesses – and vice versa.

Addressing local businesses Mr Drew said: “We have been developing our live programme over the last 18 months to include more programming for local audiences, family shows, cinema, live streaming from the National Theatre, comedy and of course great music gigs. I hope you will agree that we are making good progress in terms of the frequency of events and the diversity of what we offer.

“However, we are also very keen to develop our high profile programme, bringing the best acts to Bexhill to attract audiences from further afield. These acts bring audiences that stay, eat and drink locally – we also want them to spend money in the shops too. Research shows us that the further people travel to visit Bexhill, the more money they will spend in the town.

“We have recently put music legends Ray Davies and Elvis Costello on sale for 2014 and already we see that some of those ticket buyers come from a considerable distance – Hemel Hempstead, Bath and Portsmouth to name a few. We are keen to make an impact for wider Bexhill and these are acts that normally perform in the major cities (or at Olympic Opening Ceremonies). The Waterboys are sold out on Saturday night, next year we also have Newton Faulkner, Alison Moyet, John Grant, Rich Hall, Level 42 and Joan Armatrading to name a few.

“We hope that there might be an opportunity for you to attract these audiences to your business through your website, social media or by promoting an offer.

“I am keen to make as much noise for Bexhill as possible and hope that you might join us. We would be happy to help you promote any ideas you have and can supply you with images of the artists and DLWP, as well as a link to your establishment on our website for those events.”
