THE Bexhill & District Gardens & Allotments Society members had a thoroughly enjoyable eight day holiday based at Best Western Buchanan Arms Hotel, Drymen, nr Loch Lomond, Scotland from Saturday, 24 May to Saturday, 31 May. To break the journey there was an overnight stop on the way up and on the way home at the Best Western Leyland Hotel, Preston. Trips out during the week took in visits to the Dewars Whiskey Distillery, Falkirk Wheel, Stirling, Oban and Inverary, luckily the weather was very good. Thanks must go to Ian, our coach driver from Rambler Coaches for where possible take an alternate route off the motorways. Members have also enjoyed a day trip on Sunday, 22 June to the Wye and Arun canal with ideal weather for a trip on a canal boat. At the Extraordinary General Meeting held on Friday, 20 June 2014, a new Treasurer was elected, Mr Nim Whitmarsh and Mrs Sally Whitmarsh was elected to position of Show Manager and both Mrs Shirley Jordan and Mr Angus Ellis were elected to the Society’s Committee. The Society will be holding their Annual Flower and Produce Show, this year there are open children’s classes for the under 16 year olds, on Thursday, 21 August at Bexhill Amateur Athletic Club, Bexhill. The show is open to members of the public from 2.30pm and costs just 50p, come along and see what we have to offer. Forthcoming dates for your dairies, long weekend to Gloucestershire, Friday, 19 September to Monday, 22 September 2014 prices £195.00 per person, day trip to the Royal Horticultural Society Harvest Show, London on Tuesday, 7 October 2014 price £17.00 person and a day trip to the Spectacular Christmas Show at Thursford, Norfolk on Saturday, 15 November 2014 price £59.00, finally Annual Dinner will be on Friday, 28 November 2014 at Bexhill West Station restaurant, price and time tbc.
