BUSINESSES in parts of Bexhill may soon be eligible for financial support thanks to an EU initiative.
Last year Rother District Council and Hastings Borough Council submitted a joint application for parts of Bexhill and Hastings to be given Assisted Area status between 2014 and 2020.
This would mean that small businesses and large enterprises in areas of economic deprivation would be eligible for special government allowances to encourage employment. The Government is now consulting on its draft proposals.
“We are delighted that north east Bexhill, the Beeching Road industrial area and Bexhill Town Centre have been included,” said Cllr Carl Maynard, leader of Rother District Council.
“The status will play a major role in boosting the economy in the district by attracting new business which will, in turn, create jobs.”
The public consultation runs until next Friday and the final Assisted Area map will be submitted to the European Commission for approval in March.
