Brothers Andy and Ian Stockdale are about to dive headling into fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support on August 30.
They will be doing the Great London Swim, one mile around Millwall Dock, and while there are easier ways to visit London this shouldn’t be a problem because Andy is a former commercial diver and Ian a diving instructor, so are no strangers to water.
Both the brothers are also builders, live in Little Common - Andy in Peartree Lane and Ian in The Twitten - and also dads.
Andy, 49, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March and underwent surgery in May so he will be doing the swim three and a half months post his operation.
He said: “My treatment from Eastbourne DGH and all nursing staff and surgeon Mr Peter Rimmington were superb. I want to raise awareness for men to get themselves tested for this disease. I had no symptoms, was just feeling overly tired, and had put this down to working hard and training hard in the gym. I finally went for a blood test and was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“So don’t be shy get yourself tested.”
