An intriguing prospect on the terrace of the De La Warr Pavilion is artist Anne Parfitt’s gorgeous pink caravan parked up ready for visitors to step inside.
Anne, or another artist volunteer, will be available inside this mobile workshop for the duration of NAVIGATE, the DLWP’s contribution to Coastal Currents. The caravan idea is a reversal of the usual artist’s open studio, in that it has come out to visitors instead of the other way round. Anne is an artist from Bexhill who uses objects from local charity shops to create sculptures. By making subtle additions Anne re-inscribes the meaning of the object, which has already passed from one person’s possession to the new context of a charity shop, waiting for its next incarnation. Anne’s work is “a meditation” on the value and emotional attachment given to decorative objects.
