THE new management team at Bexhill High promises that communication will be among its top priorities in the coming months.
Interim Principal Andy Mortimer and Head of School Darren Gelder are now fully reviewing how the Academy in Gunters Lane operates following the departure of Executive Principal Mike Conn.
Mr Mortimer is determined that the school will communicate fully with parents, carers, and wider community.
“It is 100 percent essential that we interact, listen and make our parents and carers aware of what is happening at the Academy,” he said.
“Clearly, with a new management team in place, there are going to be changes, and indeed that process of change has already started.
“It is my clear intention that those changes are properly communicated to everyone concerned - parents and carers, staff, pupils and the wider community in Bexhill.”
Mr Mortimer says he intends to be as open as possible, and regular meetings with parents which are “vital” to how people feel about the Academy.
“I want nobody to be in the dark about what we are trying to achieve here...We have a committed team focused on improvement and bringing success to our young people. This will be a long and challenging process, which is why I want everyone to share our vision and how we believe we will bring about that improvement.
“If any parent or carer has concerns, or indeed has views they want to share, then we want to listen to them. I have already met a large number of parents since I started here earlier this year, and I am keen to listen to what they have to say.”
Mr Mortimer is keen to change the perception some members of the community may have about the Academy, but accepts this might take time.
“I am tremendously excited by Bexhill High and what I know can be achieved here.”
