A thief stole cash and an eternity ring from an 86-year-old Bexhill woman after pretending to be looking for her neighbour.
The man targeted the Jameson Road property on Monday January 13 at around 11am – asking the elderly lady if he could leave a message with her for her neighbour.
He was invited in and distracted the pensioner while he – and possibly a second person – pinched the money and jewellery from a set of drawers. Police are now appealing for witnesses and warning other locals to be on the look-out for anyone trying a similar trick on them.
The suspect – shown in e-fit form - is described as white, 5’10’’, of stocky build with broad shoulders, straight brown hair, a pale complexion and a rounded face. He was wearing a waist length leather jacket, black trousers and dark coloured shoes.
Detective Constable Dom Witham said: “Anyone who saw this man or who has any other information is asked to call us on 101. We remind residents not to let anyone into their homes, especially cold callers, unless they are really satisfied that they are who they say they are.”
