Bexhill Neighbourhood Policing Team are urging local residents to take heed of their advice on the latest telephone scams to prevent more people falling victim.
PC Jason Kemp said there has been no let up in the courier telephone scam. Earlier this month an elderly victim from Hailsham was tricked into handing over £7,000 by someone claiming to be a police officer from London. The 86-year-old was contacted by telephone by a conman who said he was a police officer and convinced her that her bank account had been compromised. She was asked to remove £7,000 from her account and give it to a courier who would attend her home.
PC Kemp said: “I would like to re-enforce the message from Sergeant Evans last week, and highlight that the courier telephone scam is still operating in the Rother area. Exact details of the telephone scam and advice on what to do if you receive one of these calls can be found on our website.”
