Front Row Fashion - Gods & Monsters

Waiting for Video...

Fashion and performance art wowed audiences at the De La Warr Pavilion last weekend when the spectacular Front Row Fashion Show took to the stage at the De La Warr Pavilion.

The event, now in its 6th year, showcased 13 designers with collections to the theme of Gods & Monsters - inspired by mythology, religion, the big screen and music; Angels and Devils joined Beauty and the Beast with stunning original costumes from many local designers and artists.

Creative Director of Front Row, Freya von Bulow, said preparing for and staging the event was an “epic undertaking”, adding: “As each year’s event is bigger and more elaborate than the previous year, there is nothing that will prepare you for what you will experience.”

Front Row promotes sustainable fashion showcasing innovative designers and their collections created from vintage, customised second-hand, re-worked and recycled garments. The grand scale not-for-profit production, which could easily have been mistaken for a day in the life of London Fashion Week, was mainly performed in the De La Warr Pavilion’s (DLWP) auditorium.

Models and performers were vibrant, energetic and full of attitude. The Charles of London collection surprised all with a naked female model (see page 13). The Terrance Higgins Trust and St Michaels Hospice - charity’s supported by Front Row - curated a catwalk section, and winners of the Charity Shop challenge were announced.

A musical performance by ethereal duo Eskimo Kiss, puppetry by Idolrich Theatrerotto, an amazing art installation in the DLWP foyer by Thierry Alexandre, vintage clothes and accessory stalls were also part of the evening’s entertainment.

Hats off to the music director for sourcing an outstanding range of exceptional tracks, and the expert lighting encompassed the magical atmosphere.

Freya was delighted that months of preparation resulted in another successful Front Row production. Thanking those who had worked so hard she said: “We’ve been working on this since February and it was time for it to be done!”

Audience praise for the show included: “Fantastic.” “It’s a great fun event” and ,“An absolutely amazing show.”
