Get dancing for Anna

Put on those dancing feet and happy faces for a summer disco at the Manor Barn in Bexhill Old Town on Saturday August 16 from 7.30pm.

It’s being organised by the McNaughton family to raise funds towards a new piece of high-tech equipment for daughter Anna to enable her to communicate better with the world.

Anna, now 27, is quadriplegic and has cerebral palsy. A Liberator communication device - which costs £9,000 - will mean she can not only interact more effectively with family and friends but also give disability awareness talks in schools and colleges as well as empowering special need students.

Dad John said: “Last year we raised £3,300 towards our target of £9,000. A couple of weeks ago Josh Bishop did the Ironman event in Bolton for Anna, which involved a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a full 26.2-mile marathon. The three events had to be completed within 17 hours and he did it in a total of 15.5 hours!”

At present the family doesn’t know precisely how much Josh has raised, but John said meanwhile Scope has ring-fenced a “substantial” sum of money for Anna’s communication device: “So it looks as if the total will stand at just over £5,000 ahead of the summer Disco, and well over half way to the target.” Music at the disco will be by James Shepherd and other local DJs, with food available. Tickets cost £5, call, 01424 220231 or 07766 965001
