It’s time to make Bexhill bloom

It’s now officially British Summer Time and time to start thinking about making your garden or your business looking beautiful for Bexhill in Bloom.

This year’s event will be officially launched on Saturday (April 5) with a garden festival.

The gala event will be held from 11am to 3pm at the Bagnall Room, Caring Community, in Sackville Road and will be opened by the chairman of the council, Cllr Ian Jenkins and Brett McLean.

Sandy Melvin from Bexhill in Bloom said: “Refreshments and Light Lunches will be served.

“There will be various stands including Fairtrade, Sussex Wildlife Trust with children’s seed planting, a raffle, entertainment; furry friends, a quiz and much more. “Pick up your application form for this year’s competition. Please come along and support us.

“Also hot off the press, the national judges for South & South East in Bloom are coming to judge Bexhill and Egerton Park on Wednesday 16 July, more information later

“We woulld like to see more people join our Bexhill in Bloom committee.

“The main function is to help organise events which raise much needed funds as well as to help out at these events.

This year’s competition categories include: Hotel or Guest House, Retail Premises, Licensed Premises, Overall Area, Community Effort, Eco Garden, Private Garden, Containers, Garden Flat, Good Garden Design, and a number of special awards. Prizes sponsored by ESK.

Categories new to 2014 include: Best Wildlife Garden (four categories) Large, Small, Public and Community. Prizes sponsored by Wildlife Trust

Future events include an open garden in Turkey Road Sat 10 May
