Members and partners of Rotary Club of Senlac held a special evening at the Cooden Beach Hotel to celebrate the achievements of outgoing President Jimmy Carroll and to welcome incoming President Christine Folley.

President Jimmy spoke first to say how much he had enjoyed his year and thanked the members who had made his time in office so memorable and been such a help to him. He then handed over to Christine who is the club’s first Lady President.

Christine was born and educated in Wolverhampton and then went on to higher education in Bristol and Gloucester. She qualified as a teacher in 1965. From 1965-1984 she moved around with her family to places including Cheltenham, Plymouth, Saltash, Corwall and Angmering West Sussex.

In 1984 Chris moved to South Africa and worked as an employment consultant specialising in skills transfer advice, textile and clothing pattern design and teaching textiles and clothing design in a private college. She also spent time teaching black women how to use clothing manufacture to set up a market business.

On her return from Africa she took up a teaching appointment at Bexhill High School and remained there until retirement in 2006. Since then, among her many activities, she has enjoyed helping with charity work and attending the gym. Chris’s main hobby is quilting. She is an active member of the Sanditon quilting group and has served as their chairman organising events exhibitions and social events for the club.

Chris joined the Rotary Club of Senlac in 2010 and has served as chair of the fund raising and club services committees. She is also a Senlac Yellowman and has very much enjoyed spending time in the Pokot region of Kenya working on education and other projects.

During her Presidential year Chris intends to carry on the good work of Senlac, to support charitable events and to introduce new initiatives and social events involving the wider community.

The final presentations of the evening went to in-coming President-elect Roger Young and treasurer Michael Dodge.
