If the New Year sees you making a resolution to go out, make new friends and be more social then East Bexhill Ladies Club might be just the answer.
The group meets every fourth Wednesday of the month at St Michael’s church hall in Glassenbury Drive, and enjoys talks, demonstrations, quizzes and outings.
Sessions open at 2pm for 2.30-4pm ending with tea and biscuits and there are currently approx 35 members.
Connie Crilly has been with East Bexhill Ladies Club since she first moved to Bexhill 20 years ago.
“I joined because I didn’t know anybody here,” she said.
“One of my neighbours belonged to the group and when I got to know here she said - why don’t you come along? I have been going ever since. What I like is the friendliness - you make friends, and we go on outings, we go for meals two or three times a year, that sort of thing. Members are mainly like me in their 70’s, or 80’s, but we do have one member who is 92. We have speakers and demonstrators, and of course there is always tea and biscuits - it is very socialble. A lot of the members live on their own so it is an afternoon out for them. It was originally Townswomen’s Guild, but a group of ladies broke away and formed their own committee. I have good friends there - I have been quite ill this year but they have visited, sent cards and flowers from the club which is really nice. We all phone each other and keep in touch.
“You are made very welcome as soon as you go there, but you can come a couple of times before joining to see what it’s like.”
