Late-night victim of assault and attempted robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault and attempted robbery on a woman in Bexhill-on-Sea.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked in Preston Road, on Sunday 20 April after walking home from the New Inn Pub at 1am.

She was approached by a man who stopped and asked her for a cigarette. After giving him one, he then asked for money. When the victim was unable to give him any, he pushed her to the ground and attempted to rob her.

The victim managed to get away from him when the man got distracted by two passing vehicles.

The suspect is described as a mixed race, aged 20 to 22, 5’ 10” of slim build and with short hair. He was wearing a black coat, dark blue jeans and dark blue trainers.
