Doorstep con artists are continuing to target homes in Bexhill and this week police have issued a warning to residents about the latest scam.
Sgt Mark Evans of Bexhill Police said: “We have had instances in Bexhill recently where a man has been knocking on people’s doors and claiming his car has broken down and that he needs money to get to Ashford. Never hand money over to strangers on your doorstep with variations of stories like this and always report suspicious activity to us at the earliest opportunity.
“We need to continue to be vigilant to suspicious cold calling in the area. If somebody knocks at your door, always examine and check their identification and if you have any doubts about the integrity of somebody on your doorstep, don’t be afraid to close the door and phone the company they claim to work for. If somebody is genuine, they will have no problem with this.”
