Bexhill MP Greg Barker has visited Bexhill High to see for himself the rapid changes being made at the Gunters Lane academy.
He asked to meet Interim Principal Andy Mortimer and Head of School Darren Gelder who have led the school together since September.
Andy said: “Greg has been a supporter of Bexhill High for many years now - in fact since he first became the MP for Bexhill - and we all value that support.
“Even in our very difficult times, when it was announced earlier this year that we had gone into Special Measures, Greg remained loyal.
“He stood outside our school gates being interviewed by the BBC at the time saying he was confident that changes were starting to be made, and that he hoped those changes would bring about quick improvement and better progress for our learners.
“So it was pleasing to meet Greg for the first time, and for Darren and I to be able to show him exactly what we are doing.
“We acknowledge that Greg has great influence in the town, and we wanted to send him away with a positive message about the academy, and we certainly achieved that, I hope.”
Andy, of Prospects Academy Trust, said that he was able to brief the MP on changes made in recent months.
“Greg has the same desire as we do - to make Bexhill High a successful academy and for the students to leave with excellent GCSE results and also to have enjoyed their education to prepare them fully for their lives ahead. These are challenging yet very exciting times, and I felt proud as Interim Principal to be able to tell our MP about the start of our journey.”
