The new £1.2 million Interventional Radiology Suite at the Conquest Hospital has been officially opened.
A plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion recognising the £25,000 contribution towards the new suite from the Friends of Conquest Hospital.
The new state of the art imaging equipment has the latest cutting edge technology, replacing equipment installed at the hospital 22 years ago.
Interventional Radiology (IR) allows surgery to be performed using imaging, avoiding the need for open surgery.
Conditions that can be treated in this way include aortic aneurysms, poor blood supply to the legs, collapses of vertebrae and cancers blocking the liver and gut.
Consultant Interventional Radiologist Dr Mo Faris said: “We are delighted to officially open the new Interventional Radiology suite. It is truly state of the art equipment enabling us to offer an expanded service to patients.
“We would like to put on record our thanks to the Friends of Conquest Hospital for their contribution towards the new unit. No other hospital in the South East offers the range of procedures that we now can and we’re also the only hospital where an Interventional Radiology Consultant is available on-call 24 hours a day. This new suite demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to this cutting-edge field and together with my Interventional Radiologist colleagues we are looking forward to further expanding what we can offer patients in the future.”
