Coping with the grief of losing a loved one is something we all must face but East Sussex Cruse helps those who don’t want to do it alone.
Now a new drop-in venue for bereaved people in the Hastings and Rother area has opened its doors in St Leonards-on-sea - meaning support is available for all of us locally.
It is an informal, friendly and confidential gathering place attended by trained Cruse Bereavement Volunteers and is for those with bereavement in common.
No appointment is necessary, anyone can just come along, and it is free to attend although donations will be gratefully received. It is in Together - Your Way, Carisbrooke House in Stockleigh Road, St Leonards - with bus and train service near by.
Those who become involved with the group make comments such as: “It means a lot to hear about and share other people’s grief, to know you are not the only one and to be able to support each other in a safe and friendly environment”.
Janet, who runs the drop-in service on behalf of East Sussex Cruse, said: “The focus is on the effects of loss and grief on personal and social life and to offer a safe space to share experiences.
“The first hour from 2-3pm is for newcomers who, if they wish, can stay and join the main group which meets from 3pm to 4pm.
People are welcome to attend as frequently as they wish for up to six months, when we would suggest an individual review of future needs. If anyone is on the waiting list for one-to-one counselling through East Sussex Cruse and those sessions begin, the Drop-in service is no longer available to you, although it can be rejoined after the one-to-one counselling sessions end.
The group is facilitated by trained Cruse Volunteers and we emphasise that anything discussed in the session is completely confidential and does not go beyond the room.
If you feel that the Drop-in would be beneficial for you please come along on Friday afternoons. Tea and biscuits are also on offer!”
