Crowds packed into Ninfield last weekend for a carnival that saw two new events added to some old classics.
The ‘Ninfield’s Best Baker’ competition joined a jumbo boot fair in adding new elements to Saturday’s fixture.
Carnival spokesman Samantha Guard described the crowds as ‘record’.
“All in all, it was a fantastic day,” she said.
“There are so many helpers, volunteers and committee members who gave time throughout the weekend and all are greatly appreciated.”
Friday evening (July 11) saw singers, dancers and musicians vying for top spot in Ninfield’s Got Talent - won by seven-year-old Ruby Wadmore with a drum solo to Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’.
As well as a standing ovation, Ruby carried off £75 cash and her first booking, for a Ninfield music show on July 26.
Bouncy castles, bungee runs, and beer tents kept families happy on Saturday, before Hugh Clifton’s steam engine lead ten floats on a parade from Lower Street to the recreation ground. Carnival Queen Alicia Reid and princesses Violet Newnham and Erin Freeman helped award float prizes.
The Ninfield’s Best Baker crown was carried away by Trudi Elkins, with Sue Pont a close second.
The tasty dishes were afterwards handed out to hungry carnival-goers. And the ever-popular dog show followed performances from Ninfield School singers and the Dance Club.
A huge crowd cheered the tractor pull, narrowly won by The Village Pullers, before carnival vice-chairman Robin Fookes took over for the raffle.
All proceeds from the day will go to local charities and projects.
The adult float category was won by the History Society, with their Captain Pugwash effort, while the junior title was taken by the First Ninfield Scout Group, with their Disney Club concoction. The best walking effort went to the Queen of Hearts.
The event was sponsored by Haffenden Roofing, Parker&Son Builders, Birds Music, French’s Skips, Mark ’Noshers’ Crutchington, Lizzi’s Bouncy Castle, Meridian Marquees, Very Berry Farm, Ninfield Bonfire Society, Hailsham Roadways and Martin and Elaine Padfield – year 436 of the Coconut Shy,
