A prostate cancer survivor turned underwear superhero organised a charity event on the seafront which raised approaching £2,000.

Damon Pinder, also known as Pantman, had set himself a target this year of taking part in six Y-Front runs in support of Cancer Research UK, but when one was cancelled he decided to branch out on his own and ask friends and family to join him for 5k along Bexhill promenade.

Wife Teresa said: “Damon regularly runs the 5k on Bexhill Prom with his pals who are male and female and we had all been saying for quite some time that it would be great if there was a local run we could do for charity that everyone could join in. As a few people had already sponsored Pantman on his Justgiving Page to do the six 5k runs we came up with the idea of Power the Prom (with Pantman) and thought it would be great if anyone any age could join in and thought it would be good to do it as a £5 voluntary donation to Cancer Research UK via Damon’s Justgiving Page. Jo, one of the organisers from the Y Front Run was also invited to come along with registration forms for the Y Front Run in September and we know that some more of the men who were with us on Sunday have now also signed up for that.

Damon himself is a Prostate Cancer Survivor, and he considers himself extremely lucky, and thanks our local GP and his consultants for dealing with everything so quickly.

“Lots of local people and businesses have helped with donations in all kinds of ways as well as raffle prizes so that we could keep this as a very low cost event so that all proceeds go to Cancer Research UK. Everyone has been amazing.”

A total of 138 people signed up to take part in the event on Sunday, and everyone enjoyed themselves with many buying hand-painted by Pantman tops and t-shirts, the proceeds of which is also going to CRUK.

Teresa added: “Chris Haines of Commando Fitness stepped in to help as things became bigger and so on Sunday we all Powered the Prom (with Pantman and Commando Fitness UK) and our fantastic community here in Bexhill.

On the day we took over £1,100 and many people had already donated to Damon’s Justgiving Page for this event to take part or buy T-shirts so there is currently an additional £600+ on that page which has all come in for Power the Prom.”

Pantman and his team thank Lee and Sue Holdaway from Coast and TL Sports Events, Jay Wootten from Hastings Direct for medals and raffle prizes, Chris Haines Commando Fitness UK for support and raffle prizes, Bexhill Sea Angling Club, Darren Dangerfield and Jon Collins of Blade Consulting Ltd, Shirt Logos Ltd, the Co-op Western Road, James Andrews of Sedlescombe Gold Club, the Co-op Devonshire Road, La Maison, Trimmings, and Starbrite Cleaning products, as well as friends, family and supporters.
