Did you know that all Bexhill and local doctor’s practices now have a Patient Participation group?

Known as PPGs they were set up two years ago and most have a need for new members from a broad cross-section of patients to attend normally a monthly or bi-monthly meeting at the practice.

The aims and objectives of the Patients Group are to:

Contribute to practice decision making and consult on service development and provision

Provide feedback on patients needs, concerns and interests and challenge the practice constructively whenever necessary

Serve as a ‘safety valve’ for dealing with grumbles and complaints about the practice, representing patients but also helping them to understand the practice’s viewpoint

Assist the practice and its patients by arranging voluntary groups/support within the community

Communicate information about the community which may affect healthcare

Give patients a voice in the organisation of their care

Promote good health and higher levels of health literacy by encouraging and supporting activities within the practice and promoting preventative medicine

Influence the provision of secondary healthcare and social care locally

Monitor services, eg, hospital discharge and support when back in the community

Give feedback to NHS Trusts

Fundraise for medical equipment or other facilities to improve the practice and/or fund the activities of the PPG

Liase with other PPGs in the area

Becoming a member offers a real opportunity to support your practice and the NHS and make new friends and be aware of ever-changing process and innovations in the NHS.

Supported by visiting speakers on occasions Pebsham group will also be carrying out an annual two week survey in September.

This is a voluntary role but expenses are paid for attendance at external meetings at PPG forums and local Clinical Commissioning group meetings. Contact your practice for details on becoming a member.
