Teams jousting over general knowledge have raised more than £300 for a local residential school.
The quiz and bingo evening, organised by St Mary’s Special School and College, was won by a team named ‘Liz’s Lot’, after team captain Liz Lash, a governor at St Mary’s. A spokesman for the school, on Wrestwood Road, said the money would be spent on improving the students’ residential housing.
St Mary’s is owned by the Talking Trust charity and caters primarily for young people with communication disabilities, though many of its students have other disabilities too.
The school made headlines last year after an Ofsted report criticised most aspects of its provision, but has since turned a corner, with the latest Ofsted assessment praising its recovery (Observer July 18). The quiz and bingo evening is held three times a year, with the next one on Friday, 10 October. To register a team contact Sue Munn on 01424 730740, or email: email@example.com.
