A survey into care homes has painted an encouraging picture of local providers with one Bexhill care home achieving higher than the national average.
The Your Care Rating survey questionnaire gave over 600 residents across 33 Sussex homes the opportunity to answer questions and add comments on their care, which were then fed back anonymously to the care homes, alongside the survey results.
The results were analysed and transformed to give each home a score out of 1,000 – the average across the county was 861.
Locally though all but one home involved in the study scored higher than the Sussex-wide average. In Bexhill, Richmond Care Home in Collington Lane East scored 905, and Ardath, Hastings Road, 870.
The highest score across Sussex was the 972 given to Bowes House, while the lowest was just 631.
Douglas Quinn chairman of Your Care Rating said the survey was established to give residents a voice, putting their care at the heart of understanding more about how well care homes perform, adding: “The survey results are also a vital tool for families when they are choosing a care home for a loved one, giving them direct feedback on the views of those who are most important – the residents.
“The results show that for the vast majority of residents in care homes which took part in the survey, their day-to-day life is happy and fulfilling.
“They say that they are treated with kindness and respect, their food is good, they are allowed visitors when they choose and staff are attentive to their needs. It is absolutely vital that we give residents a voice, that we listen to what is important to them and care providers then act on that feedback.
“That is what the Your Care Rating survey is all about, improving standards of care and giving families objective information when it comes to choosing a care home.”
