Every year Glenleigh Park Primary Academy in Gunters Lane arranges for around 30 pupils aged 10 to 11 years to spend some time away at an activity centre to help with their confidence building and their social skills.

Unfortunately, there are some parents who are unable to provide full funding for their children to attend the five-day course so the school appealed to Bexhill Rotary Club for help.

And so it was that on Tuesday (21st January) that Bexhill Rotarians Naz Manji, John Raeburn and Roger Batey went along to Glenleigh Park to present a cheque for £268 to Deputy Headteacher, Debbie Redman, who said, “We are really grateful to Bexhill Rotary Club for this generous donation as the Year 6 pupils learn so much by going away for a few days, many of whom have never been away from home before.”

She added, “The cost of the five-day course is £268 per head but we have decided to split this donation between two children so that some hard pressed parents will only have to pay half the cost for each child.”

Glenleigh Park will be taking the Year 6 pupils away in March to Windmill Hill Place, a Grade II listed mansion house set in 21 acres of Sussex countryside, which is run by PGL, a company which has a number of activity centres all over the country from Perthshire in the north to the Isle of Wight in the south. PGL provides a wide range of activities at Windmill Hill such as giant swing, abseiling, trapeze, high/low ropes, zip wire, climbing, heated outdoor swimming pool and loads more to give youngsters plenty of thrills, challenges and adventure.

Bexhill Rotary’s Community Service Chairman, Naz Manji, summed it up by saying that he was very pleased that the £268 will be spent on giving the children much enjoyment and benefit at the Windmill Hill centre.

He continued, “We at Bexhill Rotary Club strongly believe in giving youngsters in our locality the best possible opportunities and this in one way that we can achieve this.”
