Rotary Club of Senlac summer events

The Rotary Club of Senlac is currently a hive of activity preparing for their three main summer events.

The annual Spring Fair will take place this year at St Martha’s Church hall Little Common on Saturday, June 7. Doors open to the public at 10am for an Arts and Crafts Exhibition including jewellery. Preserves, woodturning, chocolates, textiles, paintings and toys, demonstrations and sales. There will also be displays of work by local primary schools and plenty of homemade cakes to savour. Entry is £1 and includes a free cup of tea or coffee.

All profits from the Fair will go to local charities. For further information call Chris Folley on 01424 736525.

The Senlac Classic Car Show on Father’s day, Sunday 15, is the place for another great family day out and an opportunity to see classic cars of all kinds: military and commercial vehicles, motorbikes and more. There will be children’s rides and music all day, falconry, craft stalls, a book stall and auto Jumbles stalls.

There’s no need to worry about hunger pangs either as there will be a food stall, BBQ, a bar and more tea and as a Senlac spokesperson said “more cake than you can shovel down”! Entry is £5, accompanied children free. Parking and programme free. Call Roger Young on 01424 465588.

Some proceeds from the show will go to the on-going Senlac Rotary Yellowmen projects in Kenya. Senlac Rotary club has been sending a team of Yellowmen (so-called because of their distinctive yellow T-shirts) at their own expense to Kenya twice a year for many years. Projects include bridge building, building and maintaining clinics and looking after health and eye care and varied educational initiatives.

Other proceeds will go to local Rotary charities.

Senlac’s third extravaganza is the Jazz picnic held in Rotarian Pat Connor’s idyllic garden at Camelot, 90 Westfield Lane St Leonards TN37 7NQ. The event will be held on Sunday July 27 with gates opening at 11.30 am and music commencing at 1pm. Senlac say they are “rattling the good weather beads” to ensure the day goes off with a swing.

Dance to music by the Sussex Jazz Kings, Join the ‘Brolly Parade’ or simply sit and relax in the sunshine.

Bring your own picnic and drinks, there will be a tea and coffee tent

Tickets £10 in advance or £13 on the door. Contact Pat Connor 01424 756990.

The Rotary Club of Senlac serves Bexhill and Hastings. For further information contact the secretary John Relfe on 01424 272012.
