Nine members of Downs Secondary Modern’s Class of 1952 recently met for a reunion at the Mermaid restaurant after over 60 years.
The event welcomed several former students of the school, which is now Bexhill High school.
In attendance was Eve Kiss, who emigrated to New Zealend after leaving the school, and she made the lengthy flight to be at the reunion. The rest of the group were mainly Bexhill Girls, with some coming from Kent and St Leonards.
Carol Pullen, a member of the Class of 1952, said: “It was lovely to see everyone and find out what they had been doing. It had been over 60 years since we left the school, and of course it’s since been demolished.”
While there had been some prior contact between them, the main organiser was Anne West, who co-ordinated the entire event and got them together.
The group, who are now all around 75 years old, agreed not to wait so long before they see each other again.
“Everybody had such a wonderful time,” added Mrs Pullen. “we’re all hoping to do it again in five years.
