Anyone stuck between a rock and a hard plaice when it comes to what to do this weekend should head down to Bexhill seafront for the annual Festival of the Sea.
Launching the month long event, which runs from September 6-30, will be two days of family fun and entertainment, this Saturday and Sunday (September 6-7), along with competitions and prizes for anglers.
Now in its third year, Chairman Simon Elford said this year’s festival promises to be the best one yet. He said: “It has been an eventful year organising the third Annual Bexhill Festival of the Sea but due to the generosity of our sponsors this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
“We have the usual mix of food and craft, more cooking demonstrations from Billingsgate Cookery School plus a new Angling Village featuring local tackle shops and major manufactures as well as a welcome return to the ever popular Fishing Simulator, and we will also be offering free casting coaching.”
Last year the festival drew a whopping 20,000 visitors and is hailed as celebrating everything great about angling and the sea and, with family entertainment at the De La Warr Pavilion Simon and top prizes for anglers Simon said he hopes to welcome even more this year. “Special Thanks must go to the De La Warr Pavilion for laying on a superb menu of entertainment over the weekend including many live bands and the film Hook will shown as part of the Pavilion’s after dark outside cinema.
“We have also expanded the fishing side this year to almost a months worth of fishing completions all with big prizes sponsored by local tackle shops and manufactures.”
