The Rotary Club of Senlac President, and former Mayor of Bexhill, Jimmy Carroll along wife Sandra, held court at last Saturday’s Rotary Club of Senlac President’s night held at the Cooden Beach hotel.
A Rotary spokesperson said it was a splendid evening enjoyed by all. “After dinner came the important part with speeches from Rotary District Governor Elect Martin Williams and President Jimmy, who gave a wonderful speech finding something very apt, amusing and flattering to say for each member of the club.”
Highlights of the evening were two presentations. Senlac President Elect Christine Folley presented Wendy Wood with a certificate making her an honorary member of Senlac Rotary. Wendy is the niece of Senlac Yellowman Eddie McCall who, with her family, has tirelessly raised money for Kenya projects. She and husband Nick, a dentist, have been on a Yellowmen visit to Kenya helping with dental care and on educational projects and plan to make a future visit.
Secretary John Relfe was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award for services to Rotary. The award was established in 1957 after Paul Harris, who founded Rotary International in 1905. John is described as a long standing and much valued Rotary member who has already received the ‘Avenues of Service Citation’ awarded by Rotary International for the highest personal service to Rotary.
Music and dancing followed and members took to the floor dancing to music from Lumpy and the Lumpettes and “a great performance” from Sam Hallam who entertained with a range of popular dance songs.
