The ancient Parish Church of St Peter in Bexhill Old Town will mark St Peter’s Day (June 29) with a three-day Flower Festival.
The event, which runs June 27-29, will have the theme The Magic of Music and a spokesman for the church said there will be some stunning floral displays on offer, adding: “It is some years since we had a Flower Festival at St Peter’s, but we anticipate that the three-day event will out do them all.
“It will include a spectacular carpet of flowers as well as various other activities. Around 30 floral displays will depict well known pieces of popular, classical and sacred music. The central feature will be an amazing, forty-foot long carpet of flowers running through the centre of this beautiful church.”
Other events over the weekend include ‘Secret Gardens of Bexhill Old Town’ June 28-29, in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice.
St Peter’s Community Centre, Church Street will be busy with stalls, refreshments and an exhibition of art and photography June 27-29.
In the church, St Peter and St Paul School present a lunchtime concert on Friday June 27. St Peter’s Choir perform a Concert at 7pm on Saturday evening, and a Celebration Evensong at 6pm on Sunday June 29. A procession of clergy and their assistants will walk through the Carpet of Flowers to bring the event to a close.
Proceeds will go to St Michael’s Hospice, St Peter’s Children and Families Worker and The Army Benevolent Fund.
The Flower Festival will be open 10.30am to 5pm on Friday 27 and Saturday June 28, and 11.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday June 29. Further details at: www.stpetersbexhill.org.uk .
