The rape of an 18 year old in Hastings Road early on Sunday morning has sent shockwaves through Bexhill.

The crime took place at 4am when the teenager was walking near the junction with School Place.

A male grabbed her and shoved her into some bushes where the sexual attack happened.

He then made off towards Pebsham Way. She managed to get to a friend’s house who reported the rape.

The suspect is described as a black man, of large build, wearing a dark blue or black t-shirt, short tracksuit bottoms, a black baseball cap and canvas plimsolls.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Hatchet.

Chief Inspector Warren Franklin this week said all lines of enquiry were being followed and that the force was reliant on the public acting as its eyes and ears. He stressed the rape was not linked to other crimes, adding: “Bexhill and Rother are very safe areas and we will be deploying extra staff to provide reassurance and catch the offenders.”
