IF the hopes and dreams of those behind the success of the new Izzard Theatre theatre flourish it looks all set to become a vibrant entertainment hub both for young talent of the future and for professional productions.
Many of those attending the Grand Opening at Bexhill 6th Form College last Saturday (December 14) said it is an amazing achievement both for the college and Bexhill.
College principal Karen Hucker said its a dream come true. Karen has been college principal since 2003, and said she always felt there was something missing.
She said: “I felt we were missing music facilities and adequate performance space for our students.” She said its always been a vision, an ambition for the college to achieve a theatre, adding: “We’ve managed to build a fantastic facility.”
Sue Taylor, chairman of Bexhill College Corporation said: “We are so excited about this marvellous facility.
“To realise this incredible dream, and for it to be an inspiration for current and future students for Bexhill and the surrounding area is absolutely marvellous. To have it named the Izzard Theatre is a great privilege for us.
“Many of us have known John Izzard as a community worker in Bexhill for a number of years.
“Local charities, Bexhill High School and college, have seen how Eddie has supported those groups and institutions. There was no hesitation when considering what to call the theatre. It had to be the Izzard Theatre in memory of both Eddie’s work and his dad’s wonderful community work.”
Bexhill Town Mayor Frances Winterborn said: “I think it will be great for Bexhill. It’s got conference facilities as well which will attract people into town - we might have to build a new hotel!”
