A trio of charities will benefit from this year’s Bexhill Triathlon and Duathlon event as well as the organisers, Bexhill Lions.

The fundraisers will take place on Sunday July 13 and anyone who wants to take part in either of the two events can register now online at www.bexhill-triathlon.co.uk.

And organisers have started running taster events for people who are perhaps new to either triathlons or duathlons and want to dip their toe before committing to the actual day. Again, more details of these are available online.

More than 200 people took part last year and a spokesman for the event said organisers had high hopes of an even better turnout this time round.

“Our events provide a fun, safe and supervised environment in the great outdoors,” they said, “and offer fantastic challenge for all abilities.

“Our events are inclusive for disabled athletes and provide the option of a Team Challenge that allows you to share the experience with friends and family.

“All proceed from our events are donated to charitable causes, and receiving specific donations in 2014 are St Michael’s Hospice, Dragonflies, the Sara Lee Trust and the Bexhill-on-Sea Lions Club Charitable Trust Fund.

“So come and join us in Bexhill for an unforgettable and rewarding experience.”

The Bexhill Lions Triathlon has two options and includes a swim in the sea (either 750 or 1,500 metres), a bike ride (20km or 40km) and then a run (either 5km or 10km).

The duathlon is also available in two lengths and starts with a short run along Bexhill’s promenade (2km or 4km), followed by a cycle (10km or 40km) before ending with a longer run along the prom (5km or 10km).
