Tony welcomed as new leader of Rotary Club

A warm welcome was given to the new president of the Bexhill Club of Past Rotarians at a special lunch this month.

On Friday last week (June 6) the group celebrated the election of Tony Morgan MBE who was awarded the accolade in 1995 for services to charity and who at the time was head of fundraising for the Royal British Legion.

He follows in the footsteps of Frank Chaplin who, during the lunch at Manor Barn, paid tribute to the club officers who has helped make his year of office run smoothly.

The club has gained new members over the past year including two local opticians, George Rogers and Barrie Edwards.

The Bexhill Club of Past Rotarians was formed in 1960 to provide Rotarians the chance to be involved in the Rotary movement after they had to relinquish their membership on retirement. This was a rule up until 15 years ago.

The Past Rotarian’s support local fundraising events organised by the local Rotary Clubs, of which there are three.

Past Rotarian members support the Christmas collections outside the supermarkets and provide help with the Bexhill Hospital Garden Party, which this year is being held tomorrow (Saturday).

The Bexhill Past Rotarians Club meets at the Northern Hotel, Sea Road on the first Wednesday of each month at 2.30pm. Rotary guests are always welcome.
