The inspirational spirit of Christmas 1914 was recreated in a moving window display by Bureau Insurance services to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
The day became memorable for its temporary ceasefire between enemy soldiers who for a brief moment forgot about war and joined together to play a peaceful game of football across the lines in No-Man’s Land.
Manager Nicky Smith said: “We had a lot of fun doing it...We also contacted all the football clubs and football pundits to see if they wanted to be involved. We received countless letters wishing us luck, a free tour of Leicester City Football Club for four people and a promise of £500 donation from Alex Horne General Secretary of the FA.
“We have a Help for Heroes collection bucket outside and have received a few donations from the general public.”
Pebsham’s councillor Charlie Clark came to see the display and make a donation, and commented: “It was great to see a local company doing something different for such a great cause.”
