According to Chinese theorists the Year of the Snake begins on February 10th 2013 shortly after the New moon. The question is how will this new year impact on our health and wellbeing? Acupuncture and massage therapist Angela Wallis explains.

The Snake is the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac which consists of 12 animal signs including the Dog, the Pig and the Rabbit. Everyone has a specific animal sign dependent on the year they were born. For the Snake it’s those people born in 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 2001 and 2013.

This animal is the most enigmatic, intuitive, introspective and collected of all the Zodiac signs which means that unlike last year – the Year of the Dragon – we should expect quiet predictability in 2013.

People born in the Year of the Snake are reputed to be thoughtful and wise and to approach problems logically. Therefore attention to detail and discipline is a key focus for 2013. Be extra careful with your work and check important documents thoroughly. Plan everything in advance and evaluate a way forward adequately before taking action.

As Snakes have the ability to go about life in a calm, collected manner this quality will be helpful for businesses this year.

This animal sign is also thought to be very insightful and naturally intuitive – you could describe those people born in a Snake year as having a sixth sense. Expect to be able to read a complicated situation quickly in a controlled manner this year.

Deep transformation and healing are often represented by the Snake. Therefore we should begin to see the reasons for things and understand the root cause of some dysfunctions in 2013.

Create a safe space to work from this year. The Snake likes protection and it needs to feel secure to utilise its special analytical skills. 2013 is the year to make headway in a slow and methodical way. Things will definitely be accomplished as you focus forward.
There is no need to put yourself out there socially in 2013. Consider this year to focus within. The Snake is a great sign, a positive one, with energy that can help us face any challenges ahead. This fantastic year will provide you with the gusto to put your plans into action so take full advantage.
