New Year Wishes
The Christmas baubles are packed up again and the New Year wishes have faded away to be replaced by – a General Election Campaign.
This campaign promises to be the longest in recent memory. Gordon Brown has dug his heels in and wishes to remain in post as long as possible, which could be as late as June this year.
The Leaders of both the other main parties are already pleading with Liberal Democrat voters to cross over. Their fear is that neither of them will have sufficient support to form a government. Both claim that we Liberal Democrats are closest to them. The truth is that they wish to hijack our excellent policies which would solve many of the country's current problems and claim them as their own. The solution is simple, to vote for the party which had the best ideas in the first place.
I am very pleased that our leader Nick Clegg has made a robust stand against approaches made to him through the press to align with either Labour or Conservatives. He has promised voters wondering whether to put an "X" against the Liberal Democrats that there are no backroom deals or under-the-counter "understandings" with either of the other two parties.
My wish like Nick Clegg for this New Year is that the electorate listens carefully to all that is said in this pre-election period before making their final choice.
I would like to wish you all happiness for 2010.
