No Landfill in North Bexhill

BALI has called a Public Meeting this Friday in protest against County Council proposals for a landfill site at Ashdown Brickworks in Bexhill.

Liberal Democrats have always opposed the idea of yet another landfill site in Bexhill - the third, in the memory of many Bexhillians. BALI (Bexhill Against Landfill & Incineration) is a non-political group which has worked extremely hard over the past few years and maintained a high profile in the fight against these proposals. Its current Chair, Nick Hollington, is a Liberal Democrat.

The current East Sussex County Council consultation on Waste and Minerals has again brought the threat of the Ashdown development to the fore and BALI has set up this Public meeting. Recently our MP has shown a lively interest in this important issue, and, demonstrating this, he has chosen to chair this meeting on the 6th.

This is an issue on which almost all Bexhill residents are united. It is a pity that our MP does not consider it important enough to put aside his party views and invite representatives of the other main parties to share the platform. I intend to be there and expect to hear the LD view clearly voiced by our councillors and members and I will add my voice to theirs if I get the chance. I also look forward to hearing, from the floor, the defence by the Conservative County Councillors, of their colleagues who allowed this proposal to get this far.
