Observer Comment: Chance for councillors to tell us what they think

THERE’s a chance on Monday evening for councillors sitting on Rother’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee to ask questions relating to the completed Next Wave project.

Now that the works to the seafront have been completed, the presentation of the end of project review will be the ideal chance for elected members to air their thoughts in the public domain.

Controversial points include the seafront shelters, the ventilation tower and subsidence around the Colonnade.

And lately, there has been more positive feedback from residents writing in to us to say how much they like the scheme in general.

Rother has always maintained the new seafront will bring a boost to the town in terms of increasing visitor numbers, particularly during the summer months.

But the bottom line, we are guessing, is the question of whether Next Wave is worth its £5.6million price tag.

Members of the public are welcome to attend this meeting, which will be held in the council chamber at Bexhill Town Hall at 5.30pm, although there is no opportunity for the public to speak.

We’re looking forward to hearing what the councillors have to say - it will hopefully prove to be an interesting debate.

Get your own back on scam operators

WE’VE all probably been targeted by those operating scams, whether they be over the phone, by e-mail or through the letterbox.

During this month (February) there’s a chance to get one’s own back by handing in scam mail at Bexhill Library, where it will be passed on to East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards team.

It’s all too easy sometimes to fall for false promises of winning riches or expensive goods.

However this maxim is generally accurate: if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
