Observer Comment: Dog owners - keep your eyes peeled
IT seems there could be a group of people hoping to steal pedigree dogs in the Bexhill area.
Eagle-eyed Natalie Ralph has spotted a suspicious-looking white van by the park in Canada Way, Sidley, when she was out walking her two pet chihuahas.
Add that to her friend’s account of a similar thing when out walking her huskies, it really does seem that something is not quite right.
Natalie contacted the Observer because she wanted to warn other dog owners in the area that there is something amiss - and quite right too.
While the police have yet to receive any reports of pedigree dogs actually going missing, it would definitely pay owners to keep their eyes open and report any suspicious sightings.
There is a huge number of owners in Bexhill - it’s impossible to take a walk through the town centre without seeing at least three dogs during the day - so if potential dog-nappers are looking to steal pedigree pets, there is plenty of scope to track them down.
So if you do see something untoward when walking your dog, the best thing to do would be to contact Sussex Police on 101 and log your call.
Letters to the editor wouldn’t go amiss either - we would be interested to see if any other dog owners have had a similar experience to Natalie and her friend.

Slow down - new path is for all to enjoy
THE ribbon has been cut on the new coastal cycle path to Hastings, and while most people seem pleased, it seems there is one area of concern.
The steepness of the slope down Galley Hill leading to the tunnel giving access to the cafe has been criticised.
A speeding cyclist resulted in injuring Bexhill pensioner Richard Christmas, who was just walking out of the tunnel and onto the path with his wife when a collision happened.
To stop a similar occurence, cyclists need to remember the path is for walkers as well - which is just the point made by Bexhill Wheelers’ spokesman and avid cyclist Ian Hollidge.
The coastal path is a lovely idea - so let’s hope everybody can slow down and consider others while using this facility.
